My journey began on October 26th 2003. A horrible series of wildfires was ravaging San Diego County, and my family was trapped in the chaos of the Paradise fire. On that day, I lost everything; my home, my baby sister, and almost my own life; as I was burned 2nd and 3rd degree over 86% of my body. It was merely through the grace of God that I survived, and for months, I struggled to find meaning in my life.

However, after close to a year of surgeries, physical therapy , and recovery time, I finally found a new direction. I began teaching others about burn prevention, I started volunteering as a camp counselor for the San Diego Burn Institute, I returned to work as a photographer, I went back to school to finish my college degree as a photographer, and only a few years after that tragic day, I married the man of my dreams. I've endured close to 30 surgeries since October 2003 , and I will continue to have surgeries as technology advances.

I chose to do more than just survive tragedy; I chose to thrive. Life can't be put on hold because of a tragic event, it continues to move forward and it's up to you to decide to continue on, or be trapped in the darkness of past tragedies. My hope is to be a beacon for those who have lost their way, to guide them as they leave sadness and difficult times behind them and move forward.
